acting like uk isn’t doing the same thing and the entire visa/mc itch.io and steam thing wasn’t pushed by an australian group.
Remember: America bad.
i mean america is bad but i’m just saying in this case it’s not unique to them.
Gods forbid consenting adults see a drawing of an ankle or a breast, oh the humanity!
My son once saw a penis on accident and now all he does is play video games. Societal collapse is at our doorstep! Act now!
Anglo-Amerocsn Puritanism, thank you very much!
We need to adopt the Japanese way to buy stuff with cash. You get a bar code, take it to a convenience store, scan, pay. Clerk doesnt even know what it is. Just, yup, paid for, donezo. 7-11 could offer it and make bank, like how gas stations make a grip on sodas and the like from folks going in to pay for gas.
That doesn’t sound convenient at all
Freedom ain’t free…
Other countries do it and they are fine.
To choice what’s more important to you but Americans as whole clearly would rather live under the boot like the obedient dogs that they are 🤡
If people had to leave their home to pay for a Steam purchase, they’d buy a lot less. But considering how many unplayed games I have, it’s not like that would be such a bad thing… Lol
Maybe a little friction in consumption is a thing we all need lol
You could buy Steam gift cards with cash.
If I had to choose between that and VISA telling me I can’t buy a game because it hurts their feefees…
I really don’t think this kind of maneuver from payment processors should be allowed at all.
Or maybe there should simply be a more diverse array of payment processors?
I would love a payment neutrality scheme a la net neutrality but that isn’t gonna happen so
not in the usa, unfortunately for you (and us in europa, heck it affects us worldwide). :(
the damn Wero shall expand faster! >:(
In Japan, most of the convenience stores are very well distributed making it that you often times have one close-by. Additionally, a lot of those convenience stores are 24/7 open. With it being open any time and having it close-by, it is still convenient enough if you can muster to go to a store and pay by cash. If you live in the city for example, you have one that only takes 1 to 10 minutes by foot.
compared to just using your card when you make the order it is much less convenient
Much more convenient than using a card.
If my assbackwards country can do it, so can any other country.
japan really is stuck in the 80s and 90s! lol wtf xD
On the one hand, they’re a workaholic culture that basically doesn’t allow for a social or family life, so obviously their population is aging and the last ethnically Japanese person is going to be born in 2042.
On the other hand, they might just have a point.
Well, there’s being for legal stuff, but then there’s also avoiding actually shitty stuff like the people on the Epstein list were doing.
How quickly can we get GNU-Taler to be integrated ?
While I get what you mean, the group that pushed this idiocy is actually Australian.
Visa and MC are still parasitic fucking blights though, to be fair.
Visa and Mastercard were under no obligation to give in to this group, yet they did. They are equally culpable in this whole fiasco.
In my honest opinion Wero is not the solution to this specific problem either.
They could potentially also unilaterally decide that they won’t allow payments for specific types of purchases (Though they are still preferable to relying in American payment providers). The real solution is proper regulation of payment providers that blocks them from refusing service.
You mean - like - net neutrality?
Supported by Yankee hacks and sprigs.
i don’t understand why wero of all things is getting all this pr. every european country has it’s own thing, and there’s even an official international cooperation initiative. which wero is not part of.
There is EMPSA, EuroPA and EPI’s Wero. It seems like EMPSA and EuroPA share some members between them and EuroPA and EPI are in a partnership. So kind of indirectly they are working together.
I think the reason Wero is getting attention is because its branded the same in all currently served countries/banks(?, I think), instead of just your banks/mobile apps being branded differently in each country but still being in an alliance on the backend.
the entire point of the empsa is building a network of compatible apps so that people don’t have to switch. the bank alliance-backed payment apps have already mostly captured their respective national markets, and getting a new actor into that market is goung to take a huge amount of effort. empsa also has actors in fifteen countries, while wero is in three.
Marketing professors will have a field day with this one. “Giving up a large part of your revenue voluntarily”.
Taler should be the one wearing a tuxedo
Do any banks actually support it yet?
A couple banks in the EU are planning to support it. If you’re in those country you could ask them for more info.
Banks appear more eager to support Wero, which might be easier for them to support since it’s a more typical architecture, and it allows collecting much more informations about customers and their payments.
Magnet. Ich magnet mehr.
I want my bank to get on board already so I can ditch paypal
Thanks for mentioning Wero. I can’t even describe how hyped Ibam for a standardized European way of handling E-Commerce. This will ne a game changer when it gets (hopefully) established enough!
Guys we can all get together and start our own Bank.
You could also give JCB the fancy suit too!
Uk is also doing censorship with the online safety act thing. Total death upon all anglos.
That’s actual censorship though
