YouTube is not a ‘single thing’. If you don’t understand the buy European movement works or the privacy issues behind the bigtechs, then that’s on you.
Because people like her aren’t using the alternatives that they are claiming to promote.
There are other alternatives with plenty of content.
This person earning money by using the buy European platform is akin to Greenwashing, as mentioned for buy European. As for purity-testing, how many “influencers” is too many for something like this? What are they influencing mostly, the usage of YouTube to make money or the fact that they don’t use the alternatives that they are supposedly promoting? I’ve not checked, but does this influencer have any accounts on the European alternatives? Social media or video hosting sites? If not, then this is self promotion more than promoting the movement, or whatever you choose to call it.
Why doesn’t she start the video pointing to the alternative video sites that the video is also posted on, and save some viewers from the privacy issues that come with the big tech sites?
I’ve no problem with letting people watch what they like, but as she’s obviously getting paid by YouTube as an influencer, I’m pretty sure this is just the ‘buy European’ version of Greenwashing.
I don’t disagree, but literally looking for followers on one of the biggest platforms owned by one of the ‘bigtech’ biggest tech, as an “influencer” kinda defeats the whole purpose. Also, she’s not ‘starting a movement’.
Relying on people to go to YouTube to watch the video that more than likely just points at things already written and linked to on the sites that have already gained a massive following without YouTube is not unnecessary, but it is unneeded.
Using Google’s YouTube to do it. Requires their viewers all to watch YouTube… 🤕🙄
I don’t want them to, but I don’t get why Microsoft don’t just roll out updates the way Android/Linux do. Free. They’ve already adopted the Google method of moneymaking by embedding spyware into everything in the OS. Surely they could stop most of their headaches by doing that? Not that I care. Linux user here for roughly 16 years, sometimes having to go back to Windows hurts. It hurt a lot recently, having to dig out an old windows laptop to ironically install Ubuntu touch on to a phone (OnePlus Nord N10). I had tons of updates and had to install features and so much other stuff just to use it. 🤕
Well blow my socks off with a shotgun. I misread alternativeto. But my statement about them still stands. They are no longer trustworthy imo, and they have been using nasty tactics to force businesses to pay them. Also, we need more options so that reviews can be double and triple checked.

Would we have to include Lemmy?
The scary thing is, as if we hadn’t already known, it shows how much they rely on that data.
Meta said in the announcement that the new features are built “in the most privacy-oriented way possible,” and has emphasized that sharing of data between WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook will only happen when users have opted in to having their accounts linked.
So, not private at all… “most privacy-oriented way” - The same way that users need to activate “advanced chat privacy” manually on every single chat while they roll out and embed their bug ridden AI.
Realistically, the majority of people will not switch to threema @ €5.99. It’s already extremely difficult to get people to leave WhatsApp. They’re not going to pay for it.

Signal isn’t EU based, but afaik not profiteering or harvesting data.
EDIT:
There are quite a few EU based according to this.

Here’s a review that I thought was decent, from 4 months ago.

Saw that, I guess you can switch to Ubuntu touch, postmarket OS or a couple of others, but this is the single reason I didn’t just buy it right now.
I would also like to know what the camera is like on it, but having to pay for an OS subscription every year is just nope for me.
Will do. I’m home in about 30 minutes and going to sit down and look at both. Thanks.
Thanks, didn’t realise that they had a wallet. I know about the CEO, last I read (a while ago) he was trying to explain that it was a misunderstanding or taken out of context etc. Will have a look at it.
Thanks, yes I know revolut, but not sure they are easy to get your crypto out of. I have read lots of stories of people having a tough time getting their cash out. Many comparing them to robinhood app in the US.
No problem with them, I didn’t realise that they were French, although they do seem fairly expensive.
Instead of teaching iOS, Android and Windows users in schools, we could save millions and tech on Linux. More children learning = more growing up and using Linux.
Get FOSS into schools ahead of the big tech.
